Overview

Chirang is the new District of BTC area of the State of Assam with Kajalgaon as its head quarter. It has been carved out of the districts of Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon and Barpeta in the year 2004. The district is surrounded by International boundary of Bhutan in North, Bongaigaon District and a little portion of Kokrajhar District in the South, Baksa Distict in the East and Kokrajhar District in the West.

The Public Works Department (PWD) is one of the oldest and most important Departments of the Government of Assam. The principal function of the Public Works Department is to develop and manage road and building infrastructure for providing connectivity, efficient transportation, construction and maintenance of Government buildings. The present office of the Executive Engineer, PWD, Chirang (R&B) Division, Kajalgaon was established in the year 2008.The Division is formed of two Sub-Divisions namely Bengtol (R&B) Sub- Division and Bijni (R&B) Sub-Division.

Since then, this Division is trying to provide better service to the local inhabitants of the District in the field of road communication so that people from interior places can come to town for better education, better medical treatment and to sale and buy various essential commodities and also with a provision of adequate durable public infrastructure for all sections of society and bringing out efficiency in service.

The works for both Roads & Building are taken up under different programmes which includes State and BTC sponsored schemes viz SOPD, RIDF, PMGSY, CMGSY, NESIDS, Signature Project, NLCPR, One Time Special Grant, Conversion of 1000 bridges to RCC, SDRF, FDR,Assam Darshan, BADP, MsDP, GAD etc.
