Hon'ble Governor of Assam , Shri Gulab Chand Kataria hold a review meeting with Deputy Commissioner, Chirang, Superintendent of Police, Chirang, Heads of Security Agencies and all Head of the Departments of Chirang district in the conference hall of the DC's office Chirang on 07/06/2023. Hon'ble Governor reviewed the work status and assessed the progress of the flagship schemes of central and state government and expressed his satisfaction with the overall progress made by the district and provided his valuable suggestions for speedy completion of all ongoing of central and state government schemes in time-bound manner with maintaining quality as per guidelines of the schemes and interact with Superintendent of Police, Chirang and Head of the Security Forces about law and order and various activities in the district. He also suggested for plantation in every campus of Government offices and institutions.
National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in collaboration with Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) and District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Chirang conducted the State Level Mock Exercise on Earthquake Disaster on 17th November, 2022. Altogether 5 (five) locations were selected as affected venues in Chirang District namely Delhi Public School, BGR Township, Dhaligaon, IOCL-BGR Administrative Buidling, District Transport Office Building, Chirang Police Reserve Staff Quarter and JSB Civil Hospital, Kajalgaon. Immediately after blowing of earthquake siren at 9.06 AM, all the designated places such as District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC), Staging Area, Incident Command Post, Medical Aid Post etc were activated as per Incident Response Structure. All the available resources viz search & rescue teams, fire fighting teams, SDRF, Medical Teams and other QRTs (Quick Response Team) etc were mobilized at the Staging area from where the deployment of resources was done based on actual need of the simulation sites. State Police, Community Volunteers etc actively participated in the said mega event. Independent observers were also appointed from CISF, SSB, IOCL-BGR Authority for the said mock exercise and submitted their observation accordingly in the debriefing session. This exercise has been a big learning opportunity for all the stakeholders to learn new things, identify the gaps and to take corrective measures which will ensure smooth coordination amongst all the stakeholders during a real situation.
The Chirang district administration celebrated its District Day with great fervour on Sunday as on this very day in the year 2003 the district was created.The programme was started with Prabhat Pheri playing across all the district through the Mobile Publicity System.This was followed by various competitions such as volleyball, kabaddi, khomalanai (Bodo traditional martial art) and photography as well as display of cultural items of different ethnic communities, cleanliness drive and smriti tarpan in the office premises of the Deputy Commissioner, plantation of saplings at district parade ground, mass rally by students, bike rally by Chirang police and inauguration of development works.Line Departments like Public Health Engineering, Agriculture, Sericulture, Fishery, Handloom and Textiles, Panchayat and Rural Development, Industry, Health and Family Welfare, Forest, Social Welfare, ASRLM, Cooperation, Veterinary, Transport and Soil Conservation departments Showcased their activities and materials through setting up of stalls.District Day was ceremonially celebrated at the District Parade Ground, Kajalgaon. On the occasion, Chief Guest Shri Rwngwra Narzary, Hon'ble Rajya Sabha MP along with distinguished Guests Shri Jayanta Basumatary, Hon'ble MLA of 31 Sidli (ST) LAC; Shri Abhiram Mahanayak, Hon'ble Deputy Speaker of BTCLA; Hon'ble MCLAs Shri Prabhat Basumatary, Shri Madhab Chandra Chetry, Ex-MLA Shri Kamalsing Narzary, Senior journalist and President of Chirang district Press Club Abu Bakkar Siddique graced the programme wherein various memories and anecdotes on the history of the district were shared by them.Caste certificates under Mission Bhumiputra, sanction letters of PMEGP and PM SVANidhi loans and blankets to orphanages were also distributed among the eligible beneficiaries.Deputy Commissioner, Chirang, Shri P Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy, IAS gave the welcome address, highlighting the administrative history of the district.
