Overview

The Department of Sports & Youth Welfare has been taking up development of games & sports and for proper utilization of the existing sports infrastructure and implementation of schemes .

After the creation of new District Chirang curves out from Bongaigaon and Kokrajhar District of Bodoland Territorial council, the district administration functioning was in the year 4^th June. 2004.

Smt. Jajnabati Basumatary took the charge as first District Sports Officer, i/c of Chirang in the year 29^th Nov, 2004.

The objective of the department is to bring all round development in the field of games and Sports in the district the major objective of the district Sports Office is to vigorously pursue and implement the scheme of Tournament, Training and Coaching.

The department also given emphasis on training programmes to the players of Schools, College, Clubs, Association and the youth for the skill development in various discipline in the district.
