National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in collaboration with Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) and District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Chirang conducted the State Level Mock Exercise on Earthquake Disaster on 17th November, 2022. Altogether 5 (five) locations were selected as affected venues in Chirang District namely Delhi Public School, BGR Township, Dhaligaon, IOCL-BGR Administrative Buidling, District Transport Office Building, Chirang Police Reserve Staff Quarter and JSB Civil Hospital, Kajalgaon. Immediately after blowing of earthquake siren at 9.06 AM, all the designated places such as District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC), Staging Area, Incident Command Post, Medical Aid Post etc were activated as per Incident Response Structure. All the available resources viz search & rescue teams, fire fighting teams, SDRF, Medical Teams and other QRTs (Quick Response Team) etc were mobilized at the Staging area from where the deployment of resources was done based on actual need of the simulation sites. State Police, Community Volunteers etc actively participated in the said mega event. Independent observers were also appointed from CISF, SSB, IOCL-BGR Authority for the said mock exercise and submitted their observation accordingly in the debriefing session. This exercise has been a big learning opportunity for all the stakeholders to learn new things, identify the gaps and to take corrective measures which will ensure smooth coordination amongst all the stakeholders during a real situation.
